Book Review - "A Different Kind of Luxury" by Andy Couturier

A Different Kind of Luxury is a book of interviews by Andy Couturier, an American writer who spent some times living in Japan. The book itself focuses on the eleven selected people who Couturier went to visit, did an interview and, sometimes, stay with them for a period of time. Most of the people in this books are self-taught artists, farmers and lovers of nature who whole-heartedly choose to live their lives differently on the mountains(noted that this is modern day Japan), grow their own foods, make their own tools, and live their lives with little money possible( not WITHOUT money but as little as possible).

Couturier did interviews and personal reflections on such real people with their own unique personalities, talents, ideas, and ways of thinking. Once in awhile, I came across such as an eye-opening book and this is one of them. I truly recommend it, for someone who is interested in botany and plants, for someone who enjoys eastern philosophy( especially in Hinduism and Zen Buddhism), for writers, musicians, artists, painters, potters, environmentalists, activists, and even if you are not anything I just mention.

Price: $19.95
